Nails of the Week: Sally Hansen – Hot Lava, OPI – Up Front and Personal

I don’t know what to title these posts.  They aren’t always exactly reviews but sometimes I talk about the performance.  Woes of trying to categorize/organize posts.

Sally Hansen Hot Lava, OPI Up Front and Personal

I wasn’t going to talk about this nail polish since it’s Limited Edition but I found it by chance when I went in Walgreens and I absolutely love this color, I just decided to anyway.  Sally Hansen Hot Lava was released in Spring 2013 as part of the Designer Collection.  I tried to find this color when it was first released, but it was always sold out at any store I went to and eventually forgot all about it.  I happened to find the last one at a random Walgreens when I went to get some Rimmel Apocalips and it had to come home with me.  This was the only color that I wanted from this collection, although Green Tea almost made it into my collection also.  I have so many different mint/pale greens that I resisted purchasing it.  I’m trying to streamline my nail polish collection.

There was nothing in my collection similar to Hot Lava so it was a justifiable buy.  Hot Lava is a perfect name for this polish as it reminds me of flames, very Hunger Games-esque or Flame Princess.  If Flame Princess were super glittery, Hot Lava would be her exact mix of colors.  In retrospect, I should have used a yellow for my accent nail, but I didn’t have a glittery yellow polish (next buy?!) so I opted for a beige.

I used two coats of Hot Lava and about 4 coats of OPI Up Front and Personal.  Hot Lava is definitely a two-coater, but you can do three for good measure although it’s perfectly fine at two.

  1. that OPi color is pretty popular in my salon. It looks nice on toes too; because its like a really subtle color, but just has a hint of shimmer

    • it’s a really classy color, it just makes anything look a little more put together. 🙂 i didn’t know people still liked picking colors like this since there’s so many more different finishes/colors
